The inspiration for the Rare Thatch USA came from a holiday in South Africa. Passing through the game parks and admiring the stunning African thatched buildings we felt we wanted to capture some of the architecture and romance of Africa and bring it back home with us.

We initially purchased sufficient African cape reed thatch to enable us to construct a thatched gazebo in our own back garden. After numerous comments from family, friends and neighbours we decided to explore the possibility of turning our idea into a business.

After a long period of research and development a number of different prototypes were constructed and tested. After a further period of market research the Rare Thatch USA company was born!
